Pass Punt and Kick with Warrenton DECA and Zeiser Ford

For incredible way to end the final home football game at Warrenton High School, Warrenton DECA and Zeiser Ford ran a Pass Punt and Kick promotion in October. In partnership with Zeiser Ford, DECA students arranged to give away a Ford F-150 to one lucky challenger. The challenge? Pass the football from the end zone, then from the first point of impact punt the football, and finally, from first point of impact, kick a field goal.

The lucky contestant was Denny Evans. While the promotion was a huge success for our DECA organization, Denny did not share in the luck. The wind and weather were against him and unfortunately he missed his field goal. Despite the miss he had a great time.

In the spring, Warrenton DECA will be rerunning the promotion involving basketball and giving away a Ford Mustang.

Warrenton DECA students organize grand opening for Zeiser Ford

General Manager of Zeiser Auto Group, Mike Feinstein, partnered with Warrenton DECA to organize the grand opening of Zeiser Ford’s new state-of-the-art facility in Warrenton. It is a decision that he says he doesn’t regret. The grand opening was spearheaded by students who spent two months planning not only the event itself, but the marketing for the event as well. Students also created newspaper advertisements which ran in local newspapers, wrote and recorded the radio spots, and created all marketing materials for the event. In addition, the group arranged entertainment, which included a batting cage, petting zoo, performances by the school’s choir and drama department, and face paint by the art club. Normally, an event of this magnitude would be turned over to a public relations firm.

In September, the students were given the offer to arrange the event in exchange for a donation to the Warrenton DECA program. The students accepted the challenge. “Ever since then, we’ve been organizing and getting everything ready,” senior and president Scott Bade said. After the event, the students agreed they had learned far more than anything they could learn from a book in a classroom. “The entire operation was just a great experience,” senior and treasurer, Andrew Sherman said. “We put what we’ve learned into use.” According to Karly Hollenbeck, senior and vice-president, “We put so much into this; having it go smoothly is going to be the best part. It’s a whole day of fun.”

Advisor Mrs. Kernell states, “I am so proud of the students for what they have accomplished. They are motivated and the most professional, business minded students I have ever worked with. I am proud to be their advisor. With out them, the event would not have been a success. The chapter did a phenomenal job coming together to assist in the implementation of the event. Over 50% of our members showed up at the event to offer a helping hand.”

Following up on the success of the event, it was recorded that in excess of 350 people showed up at the grand opening. Nine cars have been sold as a result. This is a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Warrenton DECA looks forward to a long-term relationship with Zeiser Auto Group. In addition to this event, Warrenton will be handling their billboards and will be making a presentation to the St. Louis Ford Corporation.

Gainesville DECA celebrates DECA Week

Gainesville High School’s DECA chapter recently held DECA week with a full week of festivities to support and raise awareness of DECA and the COE program.

The week’s activities were kicked off on Friday, October 5, with DECA Game Night. A Guitar Hero 2 tournament was held to raise money for the DECA chapter. The tournament was divided into the same levels that the game is divided into: easy, medium, hard, and expert. Twenty people entered the tournament and enjoyed competing with their friends for victory. The winners were: Jordan Stewart—expert and hard, Melissa Stewart—medium, and Colton Gardner—easy. Those who were not interested in competing enjoyed watching the competition and the movie, School of Rock.

The week continued on Tuesday, October 9, with Dress For Work Day. Members of DECA dressed up in the clothes that they wear to work. Wednesday was Teacher Appreciation Day. DECA gave teachers cookies to show appreciation for their support of DECA projects and students. DECA also provided them with free delivery from Subway for lunch.
Thursday, October 11, was DECA’s Community Service Project Day. DECA members went to each class and collected donations for Faith Home in Honduras. The class that raised the most money was given a prize. Two retired teachers from Gainesville are currently serving in Honduras at Faith Home so this project is close to many people’s hearts. I am proud to report that $119.52 was raised to support Faith Home. The DECA chapter also voted to raise the donation to equal $240.00—the amount of money it takes to support a child at Faith Home for one year.
The week concluded with Diamond Scavenger Hunt. DECA Diamonds were placed all around the school. The student who collected the most throughout the day was given a prize. The winner of DECA’s scavenger hunt was Jeremy Hambelton. The scavenger hunt raised awareness within the school for DECA.
A bulletin board highlighting DECA members and projects was displayed during DECA week.

Smith-Cotton DECA hosts Trunk or Treat

The Smith-Cotton DECA chapter hosted its second-annual "Trunk or Treat" Halloween event on October 31. More than 80 DECA members passed out candy and offered a safe environment for Halloween. The DECA chapter's efforts also raised funds for Educare of Pettis County.

"The turnout was amazing. We are estimating that over 3000 people came out last night! Traffic was everywhere. It was awesome for the students’ hard work to pay off so well. We gave away over $1,000 in candy—it was crazy," said Angie Dick, chapter advisor.
